Lap & cap timber fencing

Lap and cap fencing overlaps 150 mm and 100 mm treated pine palings so there are no gaps, then adds a capping rail across the top of the palings. The cap protects the end grain from weather, keeps the top line dead straight and gives the fence a finished, architectural look from both sides.

We build it on galvanised 65 × 65 mm steel posts set in concrete, with three rails for 1.8 m fences, Z-brackets, tek screws and black caps. Heights are 1.5 m to 2.4 m (over 1.8 m normally needs council approval). Timber posts are available if you prefer.

Lap and cap suits front-facing boundaries, courtyards and any fence you will see every day. It costs more than single paling or lapped because of the extra timber and labour. Supply-only per metre is available on the timber supply page.
